Shawnee NF is the Illinois Ozarks sandstone bluffs hidden canyons and rock formations in the unglaciated southern tip of Illinois. Garden of the Gods has dramatic sculpted rock formations overlooking the Ohio River valley. The River to River Trail spans the entire forest coast to coast across the state southern tip. Completely different from the flat corn belt Illinois most people picture. Quiet in winter with leaf off views through the hardwood forest.
