UNCLE BRYCE'S NOTES
The Sacramento Mountains are an unexpected alpine island rising 5000 ft above the Tularosa Basin and White Sands. You go from desert floor to ponderosa pine in 30 minutes. Cloudcroft is a cool 1920s timber town at 8600 ft. The contrast of high pine forest camping with day trips to the white gypsum dunes of White Sands National Park is one of the best combos in New Mexico.
