The Gila Wilderness was the first designated wilderness area in the United States thanks to Aldo Leopold. It is rugged remote and beautiful with deep canyons and hot springs along the Gila River. The cliff dwellings are 700 year old Mogollon culture structures you can actually walk through. One of the last truly wild places in the lower 48.
